WASWUG Giving Back!

There will be two ways to give back to your community at WASWUG this year. Once again we will collect donations to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program and we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Northwest Harvest Food Bank. Read more below about ways you can be a part of the giving!

Washington State PTA Scholarship Program

This year we have the wonderful opportunity to help provide scholarships to Washington State High School Seniors who are heading off to post-secondary schooling. We are partnering once again with the Washington State PTA on this important cause. During Monday's lunch at WASWUG, you will find envelopes on the tables where you can put your cash or check donation. On the envelope you will write your name and during Tuesday's lunch a prize drawing will be held for all those that donated!

PTA Scholarship Program Overview

Scholarships of two thousand dollars ($2,000) are given to recipients entering four-year post-secondary institutions. Once thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships will be awarded for community colleges, voc-tech schools or other accredited institutions. Washington State PTA scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
1. Financial Need
2. Academic Performance
3. Leadership & Community Service
The WASWUG community donated to the scholarship fund last year, and as a result, were able to help a deserving student with their post-secondary education. For a list of last year's scholarship recipients, please click here.

Northwest Harvest

We are grateful to be partnering this year with Northwest Harvest as WASWUG Gives Back! The months following the holidays can be a difficult time for local food banks, so let's be a part of stocking their shelves! Northwest Harvest can use any non perishable food or monetary donations. If you choose to donate food, select shelf-stable food with the lowest saturated fats and and refined carbohydrates (sugar, white flour).

Suggested Non-Perishable Items:

Oatmeal, whole grain pastas, brown rice, tomato products, canned vegetables & fruit, canned fish or meat, beef stew, chili, baby formula, powdered/canned milk, infant cereal, jars of baby food, baby diapers.

Northwest Harvest will gladly accept monetary donations (cash or check), which you may drop off at the registration desk at WASWUG 2012. Please make sure your check is made payable to "Northwest Harvest."
